Join our short break tour and discover why Sofia makes the perfect combination - the wisdom of the past and the verve of the present. You will see part of the city walls, churches and streets from the antiquity side by side with edifices built during the Byzantine period. We will visit the Ruins of Serdica, St. George Rotunda (4th Century,) The Presidency, the National Theatre, the National Art Gallery, Russian Church of St. Nicolay, St. Sofia Church (6th Century,) the St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral (1912) and the Parliament Square. The beautiful buildings, numerous monuments and open spaces in the city will make the tour a pleasant one. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant with folklore live music. Overnight in Sofia. (D)
Breakfast. Departure to Veliko Tarnovo. Sightseeing tour of Veliko Turnovo - the medieval capital of Bulgaria, situated amphitheatrically on 4 hills - Tsarevets, Trapezitsa, Momina Krepost and Sveta Gora, the ridges of which were indeed the deeply inclined steep banks of the Yantra river meanders. Visit Tsarevets Medieval fortress and see the modern frescoes in the church. After lunch, take a walk along Samovodene market with its original workshops from the National Revival. Follow the route to the old museum town Arbanassi - a monument architecture from the 17th-18th century. Visit the Nativity Church (16-17th c. AD) with amazing frescoes showing scenes from the New and Old Testament. Dinner and overnight in Veliko Tarnovo or Arbanassi. (B, L, D)

Visit Etara ethnographic complex - an open-air museum with lovely old houses with flowers on the windows, small shops with wooden shutters where master craftsmen fashion beautiful gold, silver, copper, leather and wooden articles right before your eyes. Cross the Shipka pass to see the National Park Museum Shipka which comprises of 26 monuments, the reconstructed battle positions, artillery batteries and dugouts of the defenders of Shipka Pass during the Russo-Turkish War from 1877 – 78. The largest monument in the park is Liberty Memorial and can be seen from dozens of kilometres. See the golden domes of Shipka Monastery and continue to the town of Kazanluk known as the capital of the Rose Valley. Have a lunch and trace the Thracian culture by visiting the Thracian Tomb in Kazanluk (4th c. BC, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage). Drive to the spa town of Hissarya. Although famous for its mineral water springs, the town is a genuine pearl of antiquity. Visit the Hissar Fortress - an archaeological reserve and the best preserved Roman fortification in Bulgaria. Breakfast. Free time till noon. Depart for Starosel. Visit Starosel Thracian complex with Chetinyova hill (recently discovered 5th c. BC Thracian sanctuary once used as a temple as well as a Thracian tomb). Wine tour with wine tasting of 3 types broached wine in Starosel wine complex nearby, which degustation hall is constructed as a copy of the Starosel sanctuary. Continue to Plovdiv. City tour of Plovdiv - an ancient crossroads between East and West and Bulgaria's second largest city. Walking tour in the historic National Revival quarter, where cobblestone streets lined with Bulgarian Revival houses and churches, leads to the ancient Roman ruins. We will visit the Ethnographic Museum, the impressive 2nd c. AD Roman theater, still in use for cultural events, 4th c. AD St. St. Constantine and Helena church, Forum of Philippopolis and Jumaya Mosque. Dinner and overnight in Plovdiv. (B, D)
After breakfast departure to the 10th century Rila Monastery, the biggest and most spectacular in Bulgaria, one of Europe’s oldest and included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. Enjoy lunch with fresh trout caught in the near river. Sightseeing tour of the magnificent complex with the monastery’s museum, which hosts a unique work of art, namely The Raphael’s Cross. The cross is made of a whole piece of wood (81cm x 43cm) and is named after its creator. Return back to Sofia for a farewell dinner with folklore program at National restaurant in Sofia.
